Check more than neighboring apartments. Look for highways, nightlife, rail, event venues, garage doors, elevators, trash rooms, pools, dog areas, loading zones, construction and mechanical equipment. Unit orientation can matter as much as the building itself. Grant especially recommends thinking about when each noise source is active—an apartment that seems peaceful at 2 p.m. may feel very different at midnight or 6 a.m.
