Top Dallas Burbs to Rent an Apartment – Aggie Grad Edition 🌟

🌟 Top Dallas Burbs to Rent an Apartment – Aggie Grad Edition 🌟

Howdy y’all! 🤠 As a freshly graduated Texas Aggie stepping into the real world, I had one big decision after landing my first job in Dallas: Where do I rent my first apartment?

Like most of us, I didn’t have a house-sized budget right out of college, but I wanted to find a spot that balanced affordability, safety, fun, and—let’s be real—some Aggie-friendly vibes. After a lot of exploring, roommate debates, and apartment tours (both in-person and virtual), I’ve put together my list of the Top Dallas Suburbs for Aggie grads to rent an apartment.

⚽ 1. Frisco – Where Sports and Growth Collide

Frisco feels like the “Aggie of Dallas suburbs.” The Star (Cowboys HQ) is here, FC Dallas plays here, and there are new restaurants and apartments popping up constantly. Yes, it’s a little farther from central Dallas, but if your job is in North Dallas or Plano, Frisco is a no-brainer. It’s clean, safe, and honestly feels like living in the future.

🏙️ 2. Addison – Social Central

Addison quickly became one of my favorite spots. It’s full of restaurants, nightlife, and—most importantly—tons of young professionals. If you’re the type who doesn’t want to cook every night, Addison Circle is basically a giant buffet of options. Plus, rent here can still be reasonable compared to Uptown Dallas. It’s the perfect first-apartment vibe if you want to meet people fast.

🌳 3. Plano – Big City, Suburb Comfort

Plano has that sweet mix of affordability and access. Tons of big companies are based here (hello, job opportunities 👀), and the apartments range from budget-friendly to upscale modern. Legacy West is a blast on weekends—it’s like College Station’s Northgate, but fancier. If you’re not ready for Dallas chaos but still want a lively area, Plano is solid.

🌊 4. The Colony – Lake Life + Entertainment

The Colony is one of Dallas’ hidden gems for apartment living. You’ve got Grandscape, which is packed with shopping, dining, and entertainment (Topgolf, Andretti, and some of the biggest restaurants in Texas). On top of that, it’s right by Lake Lewisville, which means weekends can be about trails, kayaking, or just chilling by the water. Rents here are often more affordable than Frisco, but you’re still close to all the action.

✈️ 5. Las Colinas – Sleek and Professional

Las Colinas is perfect if you’re working in Irving or near DFW Airport. It has a modern, polished feel with high-rise apartments, a beautiful urban lake area, and tons of corporate offices nearby. The Toyota Music Factory brings concerts, food, and nightlife, while the canals and walking trails give it a relaxed side. For Aggies who want an upscale vibe without Uptown Dallas prices, Las Colinas is a win.

💡 Aggie Grad Takeaways

If you want sports + growth → Frisco.

If you want social life + fun → Addison.

If you want big city but suburban comfort → Plano.

If you want lake life + entertainment → The Colony.

If you want sleek + professional → Las Colinas.

For me, Addison ended up being the winner. It gave me the chance to meet new people, try new restaurants, and still live in a place that feels safe and manageable as a young professional starting out.
