Texas Aggies Moving to Austin LOVE this area: MUELLER

Howdy Ags! 👋 As a fresh Texas A&M grad making the big move to Austin, I’ve been exploring all the different neighborhoods to figure out where a new Aggie can feel at home. One area that really surprised me (in the BEST way) is Mueller—and honestly, it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in the city.

Why Mueller Stands Out

First off, Mueller doesn’t feel like your typical Austin neighborhood—it’s super modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed. The whole area was built on the old Austin airport land, and now it’s a thriving community that blends apartments, townhomes, restaurants, parks, and shops all in one place. For a new grad like me who wants convenience, it’s perfect—you can live, eat, shop, and hang out without ever having to go far.

A Walkable, Social Community

One thing I immediately noticed is how walkable Mueller is. You don’t always need a car, which feels rare in Texas! You can stroll over to grab coffee, hit the farmers’ market, or meet friends for brunch without battling Austin traffic. The Sunday Farmers’ Market is HUGE here—live music, tons of local food vendors, and such a social vibe. If you’re new to the city, it’s a perfect way to meet people and feel part of a community.

Parks, Trails, and Chill Spots

Aggies who love being outdoors will feel right at home here. Mueller has over 140 acres of parks and trails, plus a giant lake you can jog around. There’s even a hangout area with food trucks and open lawns where people bring their dogs, play frisbee, or just relax with friends. It’s super safe and has a family-friendly feel, which makes it a more comfortable option compared to some of Austin’s wilder nightlife-heavy areas.

Food, Drinks, and Fun

Mueller is stacked with some of the best eats in Austin. From Torchy’s Tacos to unique local spots like Colleen’s Kitchen, it’s all right there. Plus, there’s an Alamo Drafthouse movie theater for Aggies who love a chill movie night with food and drinks. For those who like nightlife but not the chaos of 6th Street, Mueller is a perfect in-between—social but not overwhelming.

The Aggie Perspective

As a new grad, affordability is always on my mind. While Mueller isn’t the cheapest area in Austin, it’s still more reasonable than some places closer to downtown, and the overall lifestyle balance makes it worth it. You’re only about 10 minutes from downtown, but without the constant noise and traffic headaches.

For any Aggies moving to Austin—Mueller might not have been on your radar at first, but it’s absolutely worth checking out. Safe, social, walkable, and full of opportunities to meet people, it’s quickly becoming one of the top areas for new grads to live.

So if you’re packing up and heading to the Capital City soon, Gig ‘em 🤘—and don’t sleep on Mueller when you’re apartment hunting.
