🎓 Sketchy HOUSTON Areas for Aggies To Live: EaDo
Howdy y’all! As a brand-new Texas Aggie grad who just made the jump from College Station to Houston, I want to share some real talk about EaDo (East Downtown Houston). At first glance, EaDo seems like it has everything: walkable spots, breweries, soccer games, and a trendy vibe. But if you’re thinking about making it your first post-graduation home, you need to know what you’re signing up for.
🚨 Why EaDo Can Feel Sketchy
Unpredictable Blocks: You can be walking past brand-new townhomes on one street, and the next block over feels rundown, poorly lit, and not super safe. That patchy vibe makes it tough to know which areas you can truly feel comfortable in.
Crime Concerns: Break-ins, car thefts, and petty crime are more common here than in some of the more established Houston neighborhoods. If you’re an Aggie moving here with a fresh diploma and your first new car, that’s something to think about.
Late-Night Safety: The bar and brewery scene brings in a crowd, but it also means late-night activity, noise, and the occasional sketchy situation. If you’re out late, you’ll want to be extra aware of your surroundings.
🏠 What Aggies Might Like
Now, EaDo isn’t all bad! Some Aggies actually thrive here because:
Social Life: There’s always something happening—games at Shell Energy Stadium, new food trucks, or concerts at small venues. If you’re craving energy after quiet nights in College Station, EaDo brings it.
Proximity to Downtown: If your new job is in Downtown Houston, the commute from EaDo is short and manageable compared to living farther out.
Young Professional Scene: A lot of recent grads and young professionals do live here, so you won’t feel totally out of place.
👍 Final Thoughts from an Aggie Grad
For Aggies fresh out of school, EaDo can feel exciting but also inconsistent. If you’re considering it, make sure to:
Visit during the day and late at night before signing a lease.
Ask around about which apartment complexes or streets feel safest.
Budget for extra security precautions, like parking in gated lots.
Bottom line: EaDo can be a fun launchpad for your Houston life—but it’s definitely one of the sketchier areas for Aggies to live. If you want a safer, more stable vibe, you might be happier starting out in areas like The Heights, Montrose, or even Midtown (with caution).
