LEAVE ME ALONE – Why I Love Having No Roommate Now!
Howdy, y’all! 👋 I’m a brand-new Aggie grad, and after four years of living in College Station with roommates (some awesome, some… not so much), I finally took the plunge and got my very own place in my new city. And let me tell you—I didn’t realize how much I needed this until now.
When I first started apartment hunting, a lot of friends said, “You’ll save money with a roommate.” Sure, that’s true. But what I’ve found since living solo is that the trade-off is worth every single penny. Here’s why:
1. Peace, Quiet, and Actual Rest
No more waking up at 2 AM to the sound of a roommate blasting Netflix, FaceTiming in the kitchen, or throwing an after-bar gathering when you’ve got work at 8. My apartment is finally my sanctuary. After a long day of adjusting to a new job and a new city, I can just come home, shut the door, and recharge.
2. No More “Whose Dishes Are These?”
If you’ve ever lived with roommates, you know the struggle. The passive-aggressive sticky notes. The group text arguments. The mysterious sink pile that nobody admits to. Now, if there are dishes in the sink—it’s because I put them there. And that’s honestly freeing.
3. Decorating Exactly How I Want
I love that I don’t have to compromise on whether we’re hanging Aggie memorabilia, abstract art, or mismatched garage-sale furniture. My space feels like me. Every picture on the wall, every candle on the shelf, every maroon throw pillow—Aggie pride included—is chosen with zero debate.
4. Financial Independence
Yes, living alone costs more. But honestly? Paying rent solo feels like a rite of passage into adulthood. I don’t have to worry about someone else paying their half on time, and I know exactly where my money is going. Plus, it’s motivated me to budget smarter and take pride in fully providing for myself.
5. Freedom & Privacy
Want to binge-watch a whole series in one weekend without judgment? Go for it. Want to cook breakfast at midnight? Do it. Want to walk around in your pajamas—or not—in your own living room? That’s your business. Living alone means living without compromise.
The Bottom Line
For me, moving to a new city after graduation was overwhelming enough. But having my own space—free of roommate drama, noise, or mess—has given me stability, confidence, and a little bit of peace in the middle of all the change.
So, to my fellow new Aggie grads out there debating whether to split rent or go solo—if you can make it work, I highly recommend treating yourself to a roommate-free apartment. Trust me, your sanity will thank you. 👍
