🌟 Is This Houston Area Cool? UPPER HEIGHTS 🌟 Aggie Grad POV!!
Howdy y’all! 👋 Whoop! 🎉 As a brand-new Aggie grad stepping into the “real world” of jobs, apartments, and finding my social spots in Houston, I’ve been scouting neighborhoods where a young professional can actually thrive. One area that keeps popping up on my radar is Upper Heights.
So let’s break it down—Aggie-style.
🏙️ First Impressions of Upper Heights
Upper Heights is like the Heights’ younger, trendier sibling that doesn’t try too hard but still feels polished. It has that mix of Houston charm (historic homes, tree-lined streets) but with modern vibes—think townhomes, stylish apartments, and little pockets of restaurants and bars.
It’s not as fancy-pants as River Oaks, and it’s definitely less chaotic than Midtown. Honestly, it feels like that middle ground where you can still have fun but not feel like you’re living in a frat house 2.0.
🍔 Foodie Heaven
If you’re an Aggie who loves good food (and let’s be real, we all do after years of Layne’s and Whataburger runs), Upper Heights is stacked. You’ve got:
Local brunch spots that actually live up to the hype.
Mexican joints where margaritas taste better because they’re served with skyline views.
Cozy coffee shops that double as remote work spots when you’re “working from home.”
It’s the type of area where you can grab tacos on a Tuesday, sushi on a Wednesday, and BBQ on the weekend without driving 45 minutes across Houston traffic.
🍻 Social & Nightlife Vibes
Upper Heights isn’t trying to be Washington Ave wild, but it’s not dead either. You’ve got rooftop patios, craft breweries, and laid-back bars perfect for meeting other young professionals. It’s the kind of place where you can grab a casual drink after work and still wake up for your 8 a.m. meeting without regrets.
And yes—there are enough spots where you can watch the Aggies BTHO whoever we’re playing that weekend. 👍
đźš— Location, Location, Location
One of the biggest perks? You’re close to just about everything. Downtown, the Galleria, Washington Ave, and even Memorial Park are all just a short drive away. For a city like Houston, that’s a major win.
Parking can be a little tricky depending on your exact block, but it’s still better than trying to park in Midtown or Montrose on a Friday night.
🏡 Living There
For new grads like us, Upper Heights has a ton of apartment complexes that strike the right balance: modern enough to impress friends, but not so over-the-top that you’re paying Uptown or River Oaks rent. Plus, lots of Aggies are moving here, so don’t be surprised if you hear a “Howdy!” in your leasing office.
⚖️ The Verdict – Is It Cool?
Absolutely. If you’re a new grad looking for a Houston area that’s social but not insane, stylish but not out of reach, Upper Heights is cool. It’s kind of the “Aggie transition zone” where you get your first taste of adulting in the big city—without giving up the fun.
So yes, fellow Ags, if you’re starting your Houston adventure, Upper Heights deserves a serious look. Gig ’em! 👍
