✅🎓 If They Allow Airbnbs in Your Apartment Complex, RUN!
Howdy y’all! As a brand-new Texas A&M grad stepping into the “real world,” I thought I had done my research on apartments. I checked out location, rent, amenities, and even made sure my commute wouldn’t be a nightmare. But one thing I didn’t think about—something I wish someone had warned me about—is whether the apartment community allows short-term rentals like Airbnb or VRBO.
And let me tell you, once you find out the hard way, it’s too late.
🚪 Strangers in Your Hallway
When I signed my lease, I imagined neighbors who would become friends, maybe even fellow Aggies. Instead, I started noticing rolling suitcases and new faces every weekend. My neighbors weren’t neighbors at all—they were temporary guests. That means zero sense of community, and honestly, I never felt 100% safe.
💤 Noise and Late-Night Parties
Aggies value traditions, respect, and—after a long day of work—sleep! But when your complex allows Airbnbs, the quiet atmosphere you thought you were paying for can quickly turn into a weekend party hotel. Loud music, door slams at 2 AM, and people who don’t care about the rules (because they’ll be gone in 48 hours) became my new normal.
🚗 Parking Nightmares
Parking is already tight at most apartments, but add random Airbnb guests with multiple cars and you’re suddenly circling the lot every night. I paid for convenience, not frustration.
🛑 Security Concerns
The scariest part? You have no clue who is coming and going. Most apartment gates aren’t heavily monitored, so strangers can freely enter shared spaces like pools, gyms, or lounges. I didn’t realize how uneasy I’d feel until I was the only one in the gym at night and someone walked in who clearly didn’t live there.
💡 The Lesson Learned
As an Aggie, I pride myself on learning from mistakes—and sharing those lessons with others. So here’s mine:
👉 Before you sign a lease, ASK management if they allow short-term rentals like Airbnb. If the answer is yes, save yourself the trouble and RUN.
Your first apartment after graduation should feel safe, comfortable, and like home—not like you’re living in a revolving hotel.
👍 Final Thought
Moving to a new city as a grad is already overwhelming. Don’t make it harder by picking the wrong apartment. Protect your peace of mind, your safety, and your community vibe. From one Aggie to another—look out for the Airbnb trap before you sign anything.
