🌟 MOST POPULAR AREAS OF HOUSTON FOR AGGIES 🌟

From the perspective of a brand-new Texas Aggie Grad figuring out life in the big city

Howdy Ags! 🤠 If you’re like me, graduating and moving to a new city can be both exciting and overwhelming. Houston is massive (seriously—it feels like five cities in one), so picking the right place to live makes a huge difference. Luckily, I’ve been digging into the spots where fellow Aggies love to live, and I wanted to share what I’ve learned. Whether you’re looking for nightlife, career opportunities, or just a safe and affordable first apartment, Houston has a place that fits.

Here are the most popular Houston areas for Aggies:

1. The Heights

The Heights is one of the most Aggie-heavy areas in Houston. It’s young, energetic, and super social. Tons of Aggies move here right after graduation because it’s filled with restaurants, breweries, and bars where you’ll definitely run into other former students. The vibe is walkable, fun, and just minutes from Downtown and major freeways. Plus, it feels like a little community inside the big city.

2. River Oaks

River Oaks is classic Houston—upscale, central, and polished. It’s pricier, but if you’re starting off with a strong paycheck or just want to live in one of the city’s most established neighborhoods, this is it. River Oaks is filled with shops, trendy restaurants, and beautiful homes. A lot of Aggie grads who want convenience and style pick this area, and it’s only a quick drive to the Galleria or Downtown.

3. Post Oak / Galleria Area

If you want city energy but also convenience, Post Oak (around the Galleria) is a prime spot. This area is full of high-rise apartments, shopping, and restaurants. It’s a hotspot for young professionals, and Aggies are everywhere. Living here puts you close to jobs, nightlife, and some of the best restaurants in the city. Parking and traffic can be a challenge, but hey—that’s Houston!

4. Midtown

Midtown is where Aggies go if they want to be close to the action. You’re right between Downtown and the Museum District, and the nightlife here is unbeatable. If you want to walk to bars, brunch spots, and parks, this is your spot. It’s great for young Aggies who want to meet people, have fun, and never be far from the party.

5. Washington Corridor (Rice Military)

This is another hot spot for young professionals and new grads. Washington Ave is packed with restaurants, bars, and gyms, making it one of the most social areas in Houston. Aggies love this spot because it balances fun with easy access to Downtown, Memorial Park, and the major freeways.

👍 Final Thoughts as a New Aggie Grad

If you’re moving to Houston after graduation, know this: you will find Aggies everywhere. The Aggie Network is alive and well here, whether it’s at watch parties, networking events, or just grabbing a beer on Washington Ave. My advice? Pick an area that matches your lifestyle—whether it’s walkable and lively like Midtown, stylish like River Oaks, or full of Aggie neighbors like The Heights.

Houston is big, bold, and full of opportunities. And no matter where you land, you’ll always find yourself saying “Howdy” to a fellow Aggie before long. Gig ’em! 👍🏼
