SNEAKY Ways to Meet Your Aggie Mate in HOUSTON! 🥘🤠 – FOR New Aggie Grads

SNEAKY Ways to Meet Your Aggie Mate in HOUSTON! 🥘🤠 – FOR New Aggie Grads

Howdy y’all! 👋 As a brand-new Texas Aggie grad trying to navigate the big city of Houston, I quickly learned that meeting people here is a little different than College Station. Gone are the days where Kyle Field or Northgate guaranteed you’d bump into a fellow Aggie every five minutes. Houston is massive, busy, and spread out—but don’t worry. I found some sneaky ways to meet your fellow Aggies (and maybe even your Aggie soulmate 💕).

Let me break it down for you:

1. Aggie Watch Parties at Local Bars 🏈

I didn’t think watching Aggie football outside of Kyle Field would feel the same, but Houston Aggie clubs turn bars into mini College Station zones. When I went to my first watch party, I was nervous, but within ten minutes I had high-fived five strangers yelling “Gig ‘em!” There’s just something about Aggie sports that connects us instantly.

2. The Houston A&M Club Young Alumni Events 🥂

One of the best-kept secrets in Houston is the A&M Club’s young alumni group. They host happy hours, crawfish boils, and service projects. At first, I felt awkward showing up alone, but honestly, everyone was in the same boat—new grads in a big city looking for friends. If you want to meet Aggies who “get” the transition from College Station life to Houston hustle, this is your spot.

3. Volunteering & Big Event Houston 🌱

Aggies don’t lose that servant heart after graduation. I signed up for Big Event Houston, and guess what? Not only did I get to help the community, but I also met Aggies who share the same values. Working side by side pulling weeds and painting fences is surprisingly a good way to strike up conversations that turn into friendships (or dates 👀).

4. Sneaky “Everyday” Spots ☕️

Okay, here’s where it gets fun. I started wearing my A&M gear around town—my maroon hoodie, my Aggie ring shining at Starbucks, or even a t-shirt on errands. It sounds silly, but it’s basically a secret handshake. Aggies will notice, say something, and BOOM—you’ve just met a fellow Ag in the wild. My best conversation starter so far? “What year?”

5. Aggie-Owned Businesses 🤝

Houston is full of Aggie-owned coffee shops, gyms, and restaurants. I didn’t realize how many until I started looking. When you support Aggie-owned spots, you’ll usually bump into other Ags doing the same thing. And let’s be honest, there’s something about eating a chicken-fried steak at an Aggie-owned diner that just feels right.

Final Thoughts 💭

Being in Houston as a new Aggie grad is both exciting and intimidating. But I’ve learned that Aggie Spirit doesn’t stop at graduation—it just changes zip codes. You just have to be a little sneaky, intentional, and willing to put yourself out there. Before you know it, you’ll have an Aggie network that feels like family again—and maybe even meet your Aggie mate.

So fellow new grads: don’t hide your Aggie pride. Wear that maroon, flash that Aggie ring, and show up. The city of Houston is HUGE, but the Aggie family here is even bigger than you think.

Gig ‘em, and who knows… the love of your life may just be one “Howdy!” away. 👍
