IS DALLAS SAFE for New Texas Aggie Grads??

IS DALLAS SAFE for New Texas Aggie Grads?? 🤔🐴👍  Howdy y’all! 👋 As a freshly graduated Texas Aggie making the big leap into post-college life, I know one of the biggest questions on our minds when moving to Dallas is: “Is Dallas actually safe for Aggies like me?”

When you’re picking your first apartment, job commute, or even your Friday night hangout spot, safety jumps right to the top of the list. Dallas is HUGE—way bigger than College Station—and depending on which part of the city you land in, your experience can be totally different. So, let me break it down Aggie-to-Aggie:

🌆 Dallas Is a Big City—And That Means Variety

Here’s the deal: Dallas is like a patchwork quilt. You’ve got neighborhoods that feel sleek, modern, and safe for walking around at night, and then you’ve got areas that honestly, you’ll want to avoid after dark.

Unlike Aggieland where everything feels small-town comfortable, Dallas is a major metro with the same safety highs and lows as Houston or Austin. That means you’ve got to be a little more alert, especially when you’re brand new and still learning your way around.

🏡 The Safer Spots Aggies Usually Choose

Most Aggie grads end up in these kinds of places:

Uptown / Oak Lawn – Tons of young professionals, very social, walkable, and pretty safe with lots of people out and about.

Addison & The Village – Classic first-apartment spots. Safer than being downtown and filled with other young grads.

Frisco & Plano – If you want more suburban safety, these are fantastic. More chill, great for working professionals, and lower crime overall.

These areas are where Aggies tend to find each other, so you’re not only safer—you’ve got a built-in network of fellow Aggies to connect with.

🚨 Areas to Be Cautious About

Just like any big city, Dallas has places with higher crime rates. Areas around Deep Ellum, South Dallas, the Airport District, and West End late at night can be sketchy. That doesn’t mean you’ll never go there (Deep Ellum has great music and food), but it does mean you need your eyes up, your phone tucked away, and maybe a buddy with you.

✅ Tips for Staying Safe as a New Aggie in Dallas

Always check apartment reviews and crime maps before you sign a lease.

Look for apartments with controlled access, gated parking, and good lighting.

If you’re out late, use rideshare instead of walking alone.

Meet up with other Aggies! A buddy system goes a long way in a big city.

👍 So, Is Dallas Safe for Aggies?

The honest answer? Yes—if you pick the right area and stay alert.

Dallas is FULL of opportunities, fun, and community. If you’re smart about where you live and how you move around the city, you’ll find it to be a vibrant, exciting place where you can grow your career, your friendships, and your future.

So, fellow Aggies, don’t be scared—just be smart. Dallas can absolutely be safe, and with thousands of Aggies already thriving here, you’ll be in good company!
