✈️🐶 Sketchy DALLAS Areas for Aggies To Live: AIRPORT 🐶✈️
Howdy Ags! As a freshly graduated Fightin’ Texas Aggie navigating the Dallas housing scene, I wanted to share some perspective on one of the more questionable places you might be tempted to live: the Airport area.

When you first look at a map of Dallas–Fort Worth, you’ll notice how massive DFW International Airport is, stretching across the middle of the Metroplex. For new grads, the idea of living “close to the airport” might sound super convenient—especially if you’re going to be flying a lot for work or want easy access to highways like 635, 114, and 183. But here’s the honest Aggie scoop: the Airport area is not really where you want to settle in as a young professional.

🚧 Why the Airport Area Feels Sketchy

Industrial Vibes Over Community Living
The neighborhoods surrounding the airport (like parts of Irving, Euless, and Grapevine closer to the runways) are packed with warehouses, older motels, and busy commercial traffic. You won’t get that cozy, walkable neighborhood feel Aggies usually crave after campus life.

Airplane Noise 24/7
It might not seem like a big deal at first, but when you’re hearing takeoffs and landings at 2AM, you’ll quickly realize why rent prices seem “too good to be true.”

Higher Crime Pockets
Around certain stretches near 183 and Airport Freeway, you’ll find older apartments with cheaper rents but also higher crime reports—especially car break-ins and theft. Aggies fresh out of school don’t want to constantly worry about their truck or car in the parking lot.

Limited Social Scene
While you’ll find chain restaurants and a few dive bars, the Airport area doesn’t really offer the nightlife or young professional energy of Uptown, Addison, or Lower Greenville. You’ll probably end up driving across town for Aggie happy hours anyway.

🏡 Better Alternatives for Aggie Grads

Instead of the Airport area, look at spots like:

Addison – Full of apartments, restaurants, and tons of other young professionals.

Uptown / Knox-Henderson – More expensive, but very social and walkable.

Las Colinas (Irving) – Still near the airport but MUCH nicer, with lakes, new apartments, and a business-professional vibe.

👍 Final Aggie Takeaway

If you’re a new grad, it might be tempting to choose the Airport area for the lower rent and central location. But from an Aggie perspective, you’ll likely regret the trade-offs: lack of community, sketchy complexes, and noisy nights. Save yourself the frustration and look at areas that balance safety, community, and fun—you’ll thank yourself later!

Gig ’em, and good luck in your Dallas apartment hunt! 👍🐶
