đ¨ The MOST DANGEROUS Areas of Dallas to Live In (From a New Aggieâs Perspective) đ¨
Howdy Ags! đ As a brand-new Texas A&M grad who just made the move to Dallas, Iâve been doing what all of us do when we relocate to a big city: asking friends, checking Aggie Facebook groups, and scouring the internet for the truth about where itâs safe to live.
Dallas is amazingâtons of jobs, nightlife, and great Aggie networksâbut letâs be real: not every area is âWhoop-worthy.â Some parts of town come with higher crime, safety concerns, or just arenât ideal for a fresh grad trying to start their career.
Hereâs my breakdown of the most dangerous areas in Dallas youâll want to be cautious about when apartment hunting:
1ď¸âŁ Deep Ellum (Late at Night)
Now donât get me wrongâDeep Ellum is one of Dallasâs hottest entertainment districts. Amazing music, murals, food, and Aggie hangouts. But as a living option? Or even hanging out late after the bars close? Not ideal. Crime spikes at night with car break-ins, theft, and the occasional violent incident. Visit for a night outâyes. Sign a lease thereâprobably not.
2ď¸âŁ South Dallas
If you ask locals where not to live, South Dallas almost always comes up first. Itâs close to Fair Park, and while there are fun events and concerts, the neighborhood struggles with high crime and low walkability. If youâre new in town, youâll probably want to avoid setting up here.
3ď¸âŁ The âFarâ East Dallas
Closer to Mesquite and some outer areas, East Dallas becomes more hit-or-miss. There are pockets of cool, artsy neighborhoods, but also higher crime zones that arenât great for young grads looking for community and convenience.
4ď¸âŁ The Medical District
This one surprises a lot of people since itâs near major hospitals. But many parts of the Medical District have safety concerns (especially at night). Aggies in healthcare may work here, but most commute in from safer, nearby neighborhoods like Uptown, Oak Lawn, or even The Village.
5ď¸âŁ The Airport District
Areas around Dallas Love Field Airport are known for being rough. While you might find cheaper rent, the neighborhoods struggle with crime, limited walkability, and a lack of community feel. For a new Aggie starting fresh, itâs not the best place to landâpun intended. âď¸
đ Pro-Tip for Aggie Grads:
When in doubt, ask around in Aggie groups! Dallas has a strong Aggie network, and older grads are more than happy to point you to the best areas (and warn you about sketchy ones). Also, visit an area in person during the day and at night before signing a leaseâit makes a huge difference.
â Final Thoughts
Dallas is full of awesome, safe neighborhoods for Aggie gradsâUptown, Addison, The Village, Frisco, and moreâbut knowing where not to live is just as important as knowing the fun spots.
Moving here has been exciting, but Iâm glad I did my research first. Aggies help Aggies, so hopefully this helps you avoid a housing mistake and feel confident about your move.
Gig âem and stay safe, Dallas Ags! đ
